Congratulations to Doodle For Google winner - Deyvi Wilton of Papanui Primary School in Papanui.  Deyvi has won a Chromebook and Nexus 7 tablet for himself and $10,000 worth of technology for his school. His doodle will be featured on google.co.nz early next year.

2013 World Internet Report

The fourth survey of the World Internet Project New Zealand (WIPNZ) was conducted between late July and early September 2013. For the first time, the sample in 2013 used both telephone and internet surveys. This report presents an analysis of the usage of and attitudes to the internet of the resulting sample of 2006 New Zealanders.

As internet use approaches saturation in New Zealand, our focus turns from ‘how many people use the internet?’ to ‘how do people use the internet?’ and ‘why do some not use the internet at all?’ To answer these questions, the sample has been divided into five categories: never-users (5% of sample), ex-users (3%), low level users (14%), first generation users (40%) and next generation users (38%).

BNZ MarketView

The October 2013 BNZ Online Retail Sales index was up approximately 10% on October last year

  • Spending in October 2013 increased more slowly than the rolling 12 month growth rate. This was largely

due to particularly strong spending in October 2012.

  • Growth in online spending at offshore merchants is running around 10% higher than the growth rate for

online purchases from domestic merchants.

As Auckland's businesses are learning about maximising their location they are also needing to ensure that their products, services, brands, etc are presented correctly to the ever-increasing number of mobile internet users. For most this means a major website make-over to create a 'responsive' website.

We've been meeting with Auckland's Business Improvement Districts to discuss the ways that people are accessing the internet in 2013 and what this means to them as town centre managers.

Google claims every second New Zealander now owns a smartphone as Kiwis become more mobile than ever before, but warns smart advertisers need to follow their lead.
