It has been a pleasure to assist Mt Eden Business Assn to participate in this year's Auckland Heritage Festival with the creation and management of their inaugural Heritage Walk. The walks, conducted over the three weekends of the Festival were led by our associate David Hill of Auckland Walks.

In addition to hearing about the early settling of Mt Eden and strolling through the village noting points of interest, the walk also provides access to places that are generally not accessible by the public.

We have been delighted to receive feedback such as...

"So this is to thank you and David Hill for a great walk around Mt Eden village and for the extra treats you had in store for us – Mantells, The Crystal Palace and the chocolate treats there, and refreshments at Studio 524 which is where I chose to go.
I learned a lot and appreciate the time, effort and expertise of all concerned and will be writing to the Council to sing your praises!"

"I just wanted to let you know that the walk this morning was fantastic, especially the extras at the end with the visit to Crystal Palace and Studio 521. David was a great guide."

  • Mt Eden Village Walk - Early development of the village, including historic churches, businesses, schools and development of the retail and social core.
  • Mt Eden Neighbourhood Walk - Residential subdivision and architectural styles, excursions to Mt Eden, early churches, administration and Mt Eden Primary School.
  • Eden Valley Shopping Centre Walk - Deveopment of Dominion Road, early businesses, architectural styles and transport.
  • Mt Eden Industrial Area Walk - Early industry in the area, Mt Eden Prison, the Quarry and the Colonial Ammunition Company.

We are currently working with the Mt Eden Village business Association to place heritage panels on a number of village assets. Each panel is comprises a poweder-coated steel backing plate, fronted with a photosensitive aluminium foil displaying a photograph, brief description and a QR code linking the panel to the heritage section of the Mt Eden Viilage website.
