  • The growth rate for New Zealanders’ total online retail spending eased in April, but was still up 9% compared to last year.
  • Purchases from offshore online retailers were up 13% on April last year.
  • Spending at local online retailers was up 6% on April last year - the lowest annual growth rate since late 2015.

BNZ Marketview March 2017

HIGHLIGHTS

  • March continued 2017's upward trend for online sales, with Kiwi's spending 17% more online than they did last year.
  • Purchases from offshore online retailers pushed through the 20% mark for the second time over the past 12 months.
  • Spending at local online retailers was up 12% on March last year, with food categories and Department/Variety stores again experiencing strong growth.

BNZ Marketview February 2017

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Total online retail spending by New Zealanders in February was up 14% compared to the previous February. This is a solid performance, especially when considering that last year was a leap year. (An extra days shopping in February can boost the month's spending by more than 3%, depending on factors such as the day of the week the extra day falls on)
  • Purchases from offshore online retailers in February were up 16% on February 2016. Key trends were similar to January, with Clothing and Computer stores again responsible for approximately half of the year-on-year increase. Pharmacy and Cosmetic purchases from offshore sites also saw strong growth, up more than 40%.
